A Unique Place in the Sun
San Mateo County offers a variety of contrasts, from the tiny towns on the coastside, like Half Moon Bay or Pescadero, to the densely built-up downtowns and residential streets by the bay in Foster City, San Mateo or Redwood Shores. There are 55 miles of ocean shore, parks and trails, groves of redwood trees, and storybook-pretty communities. The county is home to San Francisco International Airport, high-tech business parks in the North and South county, with high-rise hotels along the bay, and many restaurants and cultural activities.

The Bay Area is known for its microclimates, and the County of San Mateo is no exception. The average year-round daily high temperature is 61.9 degrees and the low is 47 in Half Moon Bay, while in Redwood City the averages are 71.5 and 46.5 degrees. Average rainfall is approximately 20 inches per year with 80 percent of the annual rainfall occurring between November and March.
